New Home Invasion Tool

October 8th, 2008

Home invasions are on the rise nationwide. They are particularly heinous because they are committed when the family is home putting their safety at huge risk.

Police officials agree that 90 % of home burglaries and home invasions can be avoided. An alarming number of home invasions happen with the bad guys literally walking in thru the front or back door.

Think about it and be honest now. How many times when there is a knock at the front door or your doorbell rings you just automatically open the door to see who’s there? HMMMMMMMMMM????

This new tool was an ‘as seen on TV’ special so you know how good it is. The COLOR ROTATING CAMERA W REMOTE allows you to see and talk to anyone at your front door before you even go there. How cool is this?

Of course it has many other uses-for business and home security. It is a complete plug and play kit with eveything you might need-a high resolution, rotating, color camera in metal, weatherproof housing, control box with two way intercom, remote control, a mounting bracket, power supply, and 66 ft. of cable.

Simply mount the camera in the desired location and run the cable to the back of the control box which is then connected to your television set. The television set will continue to operate as normal but now whenever you switch to the designated channel the camera image and sound will be seen and heard. You can also hook up a VCR to record the images and sound.

So simple even I can do it.

The POCKET DVR is a great covert surveillance tool for audio and video.

Home Security in The Summertime

August 2nd, 2008

Burglary is popular yearound but especially so in the summer.

You see in the summer folks seem to toss their brains out the open window. They get especially lax because of the warm weather and leave doors and windows open. RIPE for the pickens.

My favorite was in my old neighborhood in Pueblo CO. Everyone up and down the street left their garage door open just enough to let the bad guys slide in under the door. I often wonder if they left their interior door unlocked? But that was Pueblo. You would not do that would you?

Home Security-Not on Police Priority List

February 13th, 2008

Bear in mind this is my opinion. Many police departments are so understaffed and to them this is just such a low priority it just doesn’t make it to the radar screen. That is the good news.

The bad news is it isn’t going to get any better maybe ever. Here’s why.

Manpower shortage-there is just a shortage of people willing to put their lives at risk for what is very little money. There is going to be a shortage of employees in many career fields anyhow.
The Feds-with more jobs and emphasis going to Homeland Security where the pay is better it dries up any available talent quickly.
So if you are waiting for the police to respond to your alarm-get a good book and relax– it’ll be a while.

I have been saying for some time now that people need to assume more responsibility for their own home security and self defense. The police just can’t do it.

Arm yourself with pepperspray and a stun gun to protect yourself and family. Get some home alarms, study up on how to protect your home and make it less of a target. It isn’t that difficult.

Home Security Tips-Shocking Ways to Prevent Home Invasion

January 24th, 2008

Just in the last few days here in Colorado Springs there has been a huge surge of home invasions. It seems to be the crime of choice any more.

As recently as two years ago the term was barely in its’ infancy; hardly a soul had heard of it. By way of explanation “home invasion” is a term coined by police departments to describe a home burglary when the occupants are home. As you may know most burglaries happen when the occupants are gone.

Since the possibility of a confrontation is drastically heightened, the odds of injury or death to the occupants go way up. Not to mention the old saying of ‘man’s home is his castle’ the occupants are violated by the perps in a home invasion.

That’s what is so scary about these crimes-the very real possibility of assault, injury, rape, or even death to you and members of your inner sanctum-your family.

Believe it or not 90% of all home invasions are preventable according to police experts. Of all crimes 17%, or one out of six a home was entered by the bad guys. A burglary happens every 15 seconds. AND perhaps the most important stat is this: The average burglar will spend no more than 2 minutes trying to get in.

Just think about it. If you can find a way to keep the bad guys out for two minutes chances are pretty good they’ll find another target.Â

NOW THE SHOCKER! Most home invasions happen right thru the front door. Seriously! Either the occupants open the door or the door is forced open. No matter-THE FRONT DOOOR. I mean c’mon what is the peephole for?

Are you one of those trusting folks (like I used to be) that when you answer the doorbell or a knock at the door you automatically open it? Be Honest. Once you open the door an inch or two it doesn’t take much to force it open all the way.

Make sure you have a peephole, deadbolt locks that you actually lock and if possible solid hardwood doors. And last but not least your home should have at least two maybe three locations (one by the front door) where you keep non lethal self defense weapons such as pepper sprays, stun guns, or maybe even a Taser.

Remember that the home intruder, like the burglar, has three big enemies light, sound, and time. The more obstacles you can put in his way the safer your home will be. For sure keep your front door locked and don’t open it until you know who’ there.

Door Stop Alarm This little device can be a life saver.

The door stop alarm works on a 9 volt battery so it is completely portable. It can be used while travelling or at home. Here’s how it works.

Simply place the door stop alarm under the door and use it as a door stop. If anyone from the outside tries to get in placing pressure on the plate a 120db alarm goes off.

That’s enough noise to get anyone’s attention. Great for your kids away at college too.

Home Security Tips-The Ultimate Top 20 Tips for Securing Your Home

December 12th, 2007

Â

FBI statistics from 2004 show the value of goods stolen in burglaries to be on average about $1600. For the 2.143 million burglaries that is $34,288,000. That doesn’t count the untold billions in property damage done in vandalism to the victims’ property.

Here are some more facts:

Over 60% of the burglaries happened in daylight hours when the bad guys think no one is at home.

45% happened in the southern states

33% happened with no forced entry.

Almost 33% of burglaries occur by unlawful entry thru an unlocked door or window.

Burglars are almost always unarmed and work by themselves.

-77% of all crime was property related

-17% of all crime domiciles were violated by a burglar. That means on average that if you stay in your home for six years-on average- you will be burglarized.

-85% of all burglaries the offender gained entry into the house or other building.

A property crime occurs every 3 seconds, a home burglary every 15 seconds.

Is that scary Enough?

And yet police officials say consistently that 90% of all burglaries can be avoided.

We have talked about these before but here in rapid fire bullets are the ULTIMATE HOME SECURITY TIPS for securing your home from the bad guys.

1. TREES AND SHRUBS-remove from the areas near windows and doors-they make great hiding places.

2. TREES CLOSE TO SECOND STORY WINDOW-makes for a big temptation to get in.

3. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH-this is a no brainer. Your local sheriff’s department can help you organize it and it is FREE. Usaonwatch.com has more details

4. LIVED IN LOOK-if you are gone or not make sure it looks like you are home. Don’t have the vacation look of uncut grass and newspapers piling up.

5. SIGNAGE-viscous guard dog, NRA stickers, security company signs-anything that warns the bad guys to stay away. Neighborhood Watch signs work too.

6. GARAGE DOOR-sure it’s hot but don’t leave the garage door open. It usually provides easy access to the house. DUH!

7. TIME-one of the three enemies of the burglar. The longer it takes him to get in the more likely he is to quit trying. See how to slow him down below.

8. LIGHTS-another one of the enemies of the bad guys. Keep lights on in your house even if you are away. Get some motion activated spots. The bad guys can’t stand a well light area.

9. NOISE-the last of the enemies of the bad guy burglars. The last thing they want if they do break in is an alarm sounding to alert neighbors or the police.

10. SOLID COOR DOORS AND DEAD BOLT LOCKS- a key part of the strategy to slow the bad guys down. An absolute must.

11. TEMPERED GLASS NEAR DOORS-without it, it is too easy to break the glass and get in. Slow them down

12. PEEPHOLES-if you don’t have one get one. If you have one make sure you use it. Way too many folks just reflexively open the door-a throwback to the good old days before “home invasion.”

13. WINDOW AND DOOR ALARMS- a key strategy to make noise if the bad guys get in. They are inexpensive and easy to install. As a bonus get some signs that announce you have some. Burglars do read.

14. SECURITY SYSTEMS- there are so many choices. It is just a fact that homes with any kind of security system are much less likely to be a target.

15. LOCK DOORS AND WINDOWS-another no brainer. Even if you are home LOCK ‘EM. Part of the strategy of slowing the bad guys down.

16. BARKING DOG-another proven fact that the sound of a barking dog scares the bad guys away. Bonus-get a sign warning of a dog. You don’t even have to have a dog-just the barking will do.

17. KEEP CARS AND POSSESSIONS IN THE GARGE-temptation is the mother of all burglars. DON’T MAKE IT EASY.

18. USE COMMON SENSE-old throwback ideas like hiding an extra key under the front door mat just don’t work-DUMB TOO!

19. SELF DEFENSE PRODUCTS-always have some pepper spray, stun guns, and personal alarms around the house just in case.

20. THE UNWELCOME MAT-that’s what I call it. Don’t make your home an attractive target. Look at it for the outside and follow the tips above.

Remember when it comes to burglars “MI CASA ES NON SU CASA.”
