Remember seeing pictures of a tornado ravaged town with a wide swath of destruction-everything leveled in its' path but twenty feet away everything is fine. Not a twig is damaged. The same idea applies to victims of home burglary. Why you and not someone else?

In 2004 the Bureau of Justice reported that:
-77% of all crime was property related
-17% of all crime domiciles were violated by a burglar
-85% of all burglaries the offender gained entry into the house or other building.

Did you know that property crime occurs every 3 seconds, a home burglary every 15 seconds? You may be next! You will be if you advertise your home is ready for the taking.

It may seem like a random act but let me assure you it is not. Start by looking at your home from the outside-just like a burglar would. See any hiding places? Does the home have any obvious problems like open doors/windows, garage door open a few feet to let the hot air out, etc.

Not sure what is going on when you are not there? Get a HIDDEN SPY CAMERA today and find out!

Maybe the biggest one I know of now is the front door. Almost all home invasions start at the front door with the perp just basically walking in. Why is there a peephole? Use it. I see people every day that answer the door by opening it up. How easy is that? It is a habit that needs to be broken. Things are not like they used to be when you actually knew your neighbors-remember back then?

How's the lighting at night? Are there some really good places to hide? Is there a way to get to a second floor window via a ladder, tree or a garage roof?

Can we be honest here? A burglar doesn't want to waste his time by picking on someone's house that he doesn't think he can gain entry. He picked your house on purpose. He thinks it is an easy mark.

Before it is too late, make him change his mind! Make him pick someone else.
